How to Write a Poem in New York

1. Find a foggy lake in the morning.

 2. Listen to the mourning doves, geese, swallows, ducks, fish jumping.

3. The simultaneous definition and dismissal of form.

4. The faithfulness and safety.

5. A swallow flies in bow-tie figure eights just in front of you,
making eye contact,
as you stand totally still for five minutes or more.

6. Your hands are numb.

7. Now you are ready to write your poem.
